ANIMAL IMAGERY

Here is a dialogue I imagined to teach you animal imagery :

THOWN TO THE WOLVES

- Hello Children! this school year, I’ll make you work as a beaver(1); you’ll be busy as a bee. (2) If you don’t do your homework, I’ll go ape (3)! I’ll have kittens and you’ll say that I’m always like a bear with a sore throat(4).

Kate, bring me your notebook! …I’m not as blind as a bat(4) but I can’t decipher your hand-writing!

Bob, why are you standing on that desk?  Have you got bats in the belfry ?(6) or have you got kangaroos in your top paddock ?(7)

Do you think you’re the bee’s knees !or do you think you’re the cat’s whiskers ! (8)

- Teacher! I’m free as a bird.(9) I just want to be an actor ; I’ve been bitten by the bug. (10)

- Hold your horses !(11) You’re like a bull  in a china shop ! (12) This desk isn’t a stage : there is no room to swing a cat (13); you may fall.

- I won’t ! I’m fit as a flea.(14) The headmaster will never know : I’m not going to cook your goose. (15)

-
With you Bob, it’s like flogging a dead horse.(16)

-Teacher! The world is my oyster! (17)I won’t get down. I might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb. (18)

The teacher was smelling a rat, (19)  for Bob, her student talked turkey (20) and made sheep’s eyes at her (21). He did not want to be punished so he got down and played possum. (22) He was like a rabbit caught in the headlights. (23)
